About

Hands-on work that actually works.

Healing Patterns is a private practice built around one idea: your body responds better when the work is precise, adaptive, and unhurried.

Background

How this started

Devon has been a NASM-certified personal trainer since January 2017 and a licensed massage therapist in the state of Tennessee since May 2022, completing his massage education at Arbor School of Massage in Knoxville. He works exclusively one-on-one, because that's where the real results happen.

His path into this work started with his own experience. After years of competitive youth sports followed by a period of being fully deconditioned, Devon sought out a personal trainer and discovered what focused, individualized attention could do. That experience shaped everything about how he works with clients today.

Eight months into his training practice, Devon connected with Paul Kelly — the mentor who set the foundation for his approach. Paul Kelly uses an evidence-based approach that really spoke to Devon. Devon trained under him for five years, learning how to build a bodywork practice grounded in how the body actually works. That standard hasn't changed.

Later, Devon was introduced to Bobby Fox, who encouraged him to pursue his massage license so he could combine treat-and-train work — sports massage followed immediately by strength training. That integrated approach is now central to what Healing Patterns offers.

Devon's clients are typically in their 40s through 90s — business owners, medical professionals, and people managing chronic pain who don't have time for work that doesn't deliver. They're not looking for a spa experience. They want someone who listens, remembers, and actually moves the needle. That's what you'll find here.

Philosophy

How I work

Every session is different because every body is different. There's no scripted routine here — the work adapts to what you actually need that day.

Adaptive, not scripted

Sessions draw from relaxation massage, deep tissue work, sports massage, manual therapy, and active table stretching — used together based on what your body needs that day. No rigid sequence, no protocol applied the same way twice.

Pressure that serves a purpose

Heavy pressure is available and used when it's warranted. But more pressure isn't always better — the goal is the right pressure in the right place, adjusted throughout the session.

Bodywork and movement together

When appropriate, exercise education and movement guidance are woven into sessions — so the work on the table carries into how you move every day. It's the same philosophy I've built my training practice around.

Always learning more

I aim to take at least four continuing education courses a year. If I can offer more value to clients this year than I did last year, I'm doing my job. Most of my continued education is in manual therapy — joint mobilization, myofascial work, and movement-based rehab.
